National Service Agency Annual Report Shows Strong 2009 Performance |

The Corporation for National and Community Service released its Fiscal Year 2009 Annual Financial Report (AFR), which presents an overall assessment of agency performance, including financial management and audit. The report confirms that the agency and its programs are meeting critical needs in education, youth development, disaster relief, health and other human needs in communities across the country through high quality service programs. |

National Service Agency Promotes Funding for Veterans Programs |

On the heels of Veterans Day, the Corporation for National and Community Service hosted a conference call today to promote funding opportunities to support programs that leverage veterans’ skills and expertise to serve local communities through its Veterans Corps, a program authorized by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. These funds are part of the $363 million requested in the President’s FY 2010 budget for the AmeriCorps program. |

National Service Acting CEO Announces Veterans Service Initiatives |

Nicola Goren, Acting CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, joined First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden in addressing ServiceNation’s MISSION SERVE event today, and assembled care packages for troops with leaders of national veterans organizations and students at George Washington University. Goren highlighted the agency’s service initiatives that address unmet needs of veterans and military families and leverage veterans’ expertise and skills to help tackle national challenges. |

Largest National Gathering on Volunteering and Service to be Held in New York City, June 28-30 |

Points of Light Institute and the Corporation for National and Community Service announced today that the 2010 National Conference on Volunteering and Service will be held in New York City, June 28-30. This event is the nation’s largest convening on service and civic engagement and will bring together more than 4,000 volunteer and service leaders and social entrepreneurs from around the world. |

National Service Agency Announces Funding to Engage Students in Service-Learning |

The Corporation for National and Community Service has released a funding notice for its 2010 Learn and Serve America “Summer of Service” grants competition, implementing a new program authorized under the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. The new grant funding – totaling $1 million dollars – will support innovative summer-time service-learning programs for students grades 6 through 9. |
