National Service Agency Chairman to Address Panel at Presidential Service Forum

 

Washington, DC—Stephen Goldsmith, Interim Chairman of the Board of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will participate in the Service Leaders Roundtable tomorrow at Texas A&M, College Station. The roundtable discussion is part of the “Presidential Forum on Service” hosted by President Barack Obama, President George H.W. Bush, and the Points of Light Institute, and will be held at 12:30 p.m. on campus at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center.

The Corporation is the federal agency that leads the nation's efforts to expand domestic service and social innovation by engaging 4 million Americans annually to fight poverty, mentor and tutor youth, build homes, care for seniors, respond to disasters, and more.

Goldsmith and Nicola Goren, Acting CEO of the Corporation, will be available tomorrow for interviews and to discuss:

  • The progress of President Obama's United We Serve initiative,
  • Statistics and trends related to volunteer rates in the U.S. from the Corporation's Volunteering in America report, the most comprehensive data on volunteering assembled,
  • The Corporation's position at the nexus of the service movement, as the nation's leading grant maker to non-profits and service initiatives,
  • The implementation of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act,
  • Why service is part of the solution and how ordinary Americans can do extraordinary things by serving.
