Manage Your Grant – Resources for Grantees

Once you receive a grant, there are specific responsibilities your organization must fulfill. How you use your funds and report on program and fiscal management outcomes are mandated by the terms of the grant. Specific requirements are included in the program regulations.

Senior Corps offers a number of resources to help you manage your grant effectively. For information and assistance in building capacity, enhancing quality, working with volunteers and more, please see the following resources:

Senior Corps Resources

Field Guidance

The Senior Corps Field Guidance contains key information needed by CNCS Field Staff to oversee and manage Senior Corps grantees in 2008. It includes: tools, processes, systems, and materials; training Guidance, and discussion of and references to continuing priorities. The accompanying Reference Guide includes in-depth discussion of key topics such as the Corporation's Strategic Initiatives, resources for effective practices, working with faith-based organizations and other national service partners, tips to oversee and maintain eGrants data integrity, and others of importance to Field Office staff. While addressed to Corporation Field Staff who manage Senior Corps grants, these documents are also made available to grantees.

Project Profile and Volunteer Activity (PPVA) Survey

These documents will help you to complete your 2007 Project Profile and Volunteer Activity (PPVA) annual survey in eGrants. As always, if you have questions, please contact your Program Manager in your State Office.

Corporation Monitoring Planning Assessments

The Corporation is responsible for ensuring all federal resources are appropriately managed, which includes conducting monitoring visits to award recipients (e.g., grantees, cooperative agreement recipients, sponsors). The Corporation moved to a standardized system in Fiscal Year (FY) 2006 to help prioritize monitoring activities and more generally allocate Corporation resources for appropriate levels of monitoring, oversight, and technical assistance. As part of this process, we identified a standard set of criteria as being good indicators of potential programmatic or financial vulnerability in the management of federal funds, and we conduct a yearly assessment of each Corporation award using these assessment criteria.

National Service Criminal History Checks

The Corporation for National and Community Service has issued a regulation requiring grantees to conduct and document National Service Criminal History Checks on Senior Companions and Foster Grandparents, as well as on AmeriCorps State and National (including Education Award Program) participants who, on a recurring basis, have access to children, persons age 60 or older, or individuals with disabilities.

The rule was published in the Federal Register on August 24, 2007.
